Pediatric Surgery

The Division of Pediatric Surgery at Tokyo Medical University Hospital provides expert surgical care for children, from routine procedures such as hernia repairs to highly complex operations for neonates and infants. We treat a wide range of conditions involving the neck, chest, abdomen, urogenital system, and extremities. Our team offers both breadth and depth of experience that is unmatched in the field.

Minimally invasive surgery is the standard across our department. Our surgeons specialize in robotic assisted, thoracoscopic, laparoscopic, and endoscopic procedures for pediatric conditions, including congenital biliary dilatation, Hirschsprung’s disease, imperforate anus, congenital pulmonary airway malformation, and complex neonatal diseases. We are proud to be one of Japan’s leading centers for robotic surgery in children, especially for the treatment of congenital biliary dilatation and ureteropelvic junction obstruction. Our team actively contributes to national training programs and the development of pediatric surgical standards.

Our pediatric surgical team is nationally recognized for advanced expertise and consistently provides specialized care of the highest quality. We work closely with pediatricians, anesthesiologists, radiologists, and other specialists to deliver safe, comprehensive, multidisciplinary treatment. For children requiring long-term care or complex surgeries, we offer thorough perioperative management, individualized developmental support, and compassionate, family-centered care.

In addition to clinical excellence, we are committed to advancing the field of pediatric surgery through ongoing research in minimally invasive techniques, perioperative care, and pediatric critical care. Families from across Japan choose Tokyo Medical University Hospital for the high level of care provided by our pediatric surgery team, in a hospital environment thoughtfully designed to support the comfort and well-being of both children and their families.
